Find Your U.S. Congressional District Number
and the Name of Your U.S. Representative
- Determine your 9-digit zip code (ZIP+4), if you do not have it available.
- Go to http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/welcome.jsp
- Reason: You may need to know your “ZIP+4” rather than the 5-digit ZIP code, because some Congressional districts cover more than one 5-digit zip code.
Determine your U.S. Congressional District number either by a phone call or on-line access:
- Call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at 1-202-224-3121,
or 1-202-225-3121, — or call toll-free with one of the temporary numbers — and ask them for help
in determining your U.S. Congressional District number. Depending on your district, they might require you
to tell them your 9-digit (ZIP+4) zip code.
- The hours of the switchboard: 24 hours per day every day of the year.
- Calling the switchboard at an after-hours will work fine for most people. However, the after-hours operator (other than Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.) can only do a look-up for a 5-digit zip code (This is the status as of January 2008).
- — OR — go to http://www.house.gov/. At the upper left area of the screen enter your 9-digit (ZIP+4) zip code.
Click on “Go.” You will get to a web page that says “Find Your Representative.”
- The name of your U.S. Representative and the number of your U.S. Congressional District will be displayed there.
- Call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at 1-202-224-3121,
